As a child, Eli teaches Samuel to recognize and listen for and to the voice of God. Because of his other’s faith and Eli’s attentiveness and wisdom, Samuel was able to serve God in the beset capacity he could. He was brought up on faith by his mother and raised in closeness to God by the man who not only supported her but had prayed fervently with her.
