Independence Day Sunday: “A House Divided Cannot Stand”

Scripture: Luke 11:14-28

Abraham Lincoln quoted Jesus in this sentiment during the Civil War: “a house divided against itself cannot stand”.

It takes hard word to maintain a good, sturdy house, a loving, strong character, and society. We can never sit back on our laurels, can never afford to. We need to always be working on being the best people, the most loving Christians we can.

While our country is nominally wealthy and successful, we cannot sit and call ourselves “the best”. We are not the best people we can be. We need to choose to be the best who we can be.

We need to take a look at ourselves, a divided country. We have no unified heart, which is the core of the American Dream.

We have sat on the porch too long and we have stopped working on the heart of our nation.

While we are a part of this nation, the Kingdom of God is still greater.

We are not called to serve America; we cannot do it all. But we ARE called to take the next step and do the next right thing, to serve God as He calls us to it.
