Scripture: John 14: 5-27
Nestled in the concept of leadership, there are a few constant truths:
- You will never become a leader if you are never given the chance to lead.
- It is okay to ask for help when you are leading.
- A good leader is also a good follower.
The best leaders are good followers of Christ. For instance, a pastor cannot successfully lead a church family well and not be a good follower of Christ.
A minister’s job is not to say, “Follow me.” Rather, it is to point to Jesus and say, “There He is. Follow Him.”
If Jesus is still being talked about today, how profound the life that He lived must have been!
A good leader will follow Jesus’s direction, as He is the Way to where we need to go: to God the Father. To know Jesus is to know the heart of God. Also, if we follow Jesus, we will begin to look like Jesus, to live out the heart of God.
It is by our actions, not our words, that we are known. When we follow the Leader, we will live out love and His best good.
We are all called to a particular place in life (and that doesn’t necessarily mean a particular job/profession/career) but even more than that, we are called to be good. And there is one Way to be good: through following the loving example of Jesus.
