4th Sunday of Advent: Giving Love, Not Merely Gifts

Scripture: I John 4:7-5:12

Reference: “The Gift of the Magi” by O. Henry

God did not give us the gift of a Person alone; He sent us the gift of Love personified.

So many people still do not know or realize what Jesus came, lived, died, and rose for. They do not understand what His purpose was in all of that.

What the couple in O. Henry’s story gave each other was meaningful in that they loved so much as to give up their prized possessions in order to each purchase a single gift for the other. They were not giving each other possessions, they were giving their deepest, truest Love. The same as God did when He sent Jesus to us.

Once you have received the gift in love, you take that gift and love and give it others, and they to others, and so one. Love is the gift that is meant to be given rather than kept.
